There was even a Cross Country event. An extraordinary week of athletics competition centred around the fabulous Italian seaside resort of Riccione. Another 'friendly games' with great cameraderie but nevertheless serious competition throughout all age groups and events. No time to cover all of my highlights including the M70 Pole Vault or the W75 80m Hurdles, so just a small collection from the 20K Walk. ]]> Sun Sep 16 2007 Isle of Man Track & Field Championships http://manxharriers.fotopic.net/c1336441.html Sponsored by Dohle and brilliantly organised by Di Shimell, this years T&F Champs were a great success and held in dry, sunny but blustery conditions. Here is a small collection taken towards the end of Day 2 mainly the 800m finals, 75m Finals, the 5000m finals and the Victrix and Victor Lodorum winners who were presented with their shields by Gordie Brew of Western AC. Oh, and not forgetting the closing Manx championship event: the 3 Legged Race!! PJ Well done to all athletes and thanks to all the officials and helpers. Thanks to Chris Quine for all his organising and to all those who helped out on the night. The winner was Steve Taylor with John Halligan posting the fastest time. Gail Griffiths was quickest lady. The walkers were first off in the warmest of conditions with Peter Kaneen and Marie Jackson taking the men 's & ladies titles respectively. Things had cooled down marginally for the record field of runners. Kevin Loundes finished the strongest of the leading pack in the closing stages to take the title ahead of Andy Fox and Ed Gumbley. The presentation was preceded by several games of bingo in the South Bank Club - something to seriously consider perhaps for the next Peel to Douglas!!. There was a disappointing entry for the 20K event but it was won in great style by Peter Kaneen. Surprise winner of the Ladies title was Rose Taylor who persevered to the end in the deteriorating weather conditions. Well done all! There was a distinctly festive mood with santa hats, tinsel & musical socks the order of the day. Teams from the North, South and Midlands did battle in all age groups from under 13 to senior level. Sinead Kaneen won the under 13 girls 2k event in a personal best time, & Lauren Whelan finished 2nd in the under 15 girls 3k. Emma Latham was also 2nd in the under 20 ladies 5k event.In the senior women’s 5k Marie Jackson was 3rd & Ciara Kaneen who stepped up an age group after a late call up to replace an injured Liz Corran finished 4th in the same race. Peter Kaneen racing 5k in the senior men’s event was 2nd. For Lauren and Sinead it was their first appearance in a North vest. North of England won the match. Peter Kaneen of Manx Harriers was the clear winner. Second was Michael George with Robbie Lambie of the host club in third. First lady and fourth overall was Marie Jackson with Lisa Motley finishing second lady. Also a few photo's of the leading runners finishing.
